The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has finally aired their view on the political crisis that rocked Rivers State, leading to the suspension of Gov. Fubara, his Deputy and the entire House of Assembly Members. The group however, shared its own reason why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Gov. Sim Fubara.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Suspension
Recall, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
The suspension, which also affected Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was instituted for an initial period of six months.

President Tinubu cited prolonged political instability and recent incidents of pipeline vandalism, including a fire on the Trans Niger Pipeline, as reasons for the emergency declaration. He appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State during this period.​
The suspension has sparked legal and political debates, with several opposition governors challenging the constitutionality of the president’s actions at the Supreme Court.
Why Governor Siminalayi Fubara Was Suspended -IYC
According to Amb. (Dr) Come. Binebai Yerin Princewill, Spokesman IYC, “Gov. Fubara was suspended because he is Ijaw”. The group went further to tag the suspension of the Governor as”illegal and unconstitutional”.
“Today, we are informing the Federal Government that the Ijaw people are peaceful and sacrificial by nature in the struggle for resource control and self determination in the Nigerian state.

“Since the beginning of the political intakes between Fubara and Wike, the Ijaw people have been very peaceful. We have not made any misguided statements, we have not acted foolishly and we have not called for w@r.
“What is happening to Fubara is because he is an Ijaw man. Fubara was leading River State as one of the best Governors in that State. They plotted against him because he is Ijaw. In the history of the State, this has never happened. Why now when an Ijaw man is in the seat? What happened to Goodluck Jonathan, an Ijaw man, is gradually coming to Rivers State.
He went further to accuse the FCT Minister of greed. “Fubabra did not do anything wrong. He developed the State, he has been peaceful but because of the greed of the FCT Minister and backed by the Presidency, today, Fubara has been suspended”, Amb. Prince claimed.
He further urged the President to reconsider his decision because “he is a listening President”.
