Port Harcourt, March 5, 2025 — The Rivers State Government has officially addressed the recent Supreme Court judgment that reinstated Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers as legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. In a letter dated March 5, 2025, Chief Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, clarified the administration’s position and commitment to upholding the rule of law.
The letter acknowledged the Assembly’s resolutions following the Supreme Court’s verdict delivered on February 28, 2025. Chief Danagogo noted that, as of the close of business on March 4, 2025, neither the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor, nor the Accountant-General had received the said correspondence.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in a state broadcast on March 2, 2025, emphasized his commitment to obeying and implementing the Supreme Court’s decisions in accordance with the rule of law and the best interests of the people of Rivers State. The administration is currently awaiting the certified true copy of the judgment to proceed appropriately.
The Supreme Court’s decision has significant implications for the state’s governance. It not only reinstated the 27 lawmakers but also invalidated the local government elections held on October 5, 2024, citing violations of the Electoral Act.

Additionally, the court barred the Central Bank of Nigeria and other federal agencies from releasing funds to the Rivers State Government pending the passage of a valid appropriation bill.
In response to the judgment, the reinstated Assembly, led by Speaker Amaewhule, had issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara to present the 2025 budget for consideration.
