“We prioritized the protection of lives and property and ensured the continuous progress of our dear State,” Fubara said. “Even in the face of the political impasse, we have remained committed to constitutional order.”
Gov. Sim Fubara noted that following President Tinubu’s earlier intervention to broker peace, his administration complied in good faith, including the reinstatement of commissioners who had resigned. He also confirmed swift compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment aimed at restoring constitutional order in the state.
However, the governor accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating peace efforts.
“At every turn, members of the Assembly frustrated our efforts, thus making genuine peace and progress difficult,” he added.
Despite political tensions, Fubara highlighted that his government maintained security, paid salaries, and continued executing development projects.
He urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding in the face of the current situation.
“We have always been a resilient people. We will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” Fubara concluded.
Fubara’s message comes hours after President Tinubu announced the suspension of the governor, his deputy, and state lawmakers for six months, appointing Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the interim administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
