Delta State’s Political Landscape Shifts as Governor Oborevwori and Key PDP Figures Defect to APC

In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy Monday Onyeme, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move marks a pivotal shift in the state’s political dynamics, ending the PDP’s 24-year dominance in Delta State.

The decision to switch allegiance was announced following extensive consultations with political stakeholders. Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the move was made in the best interest of Delta State’s long-term development. He, along with his deputy and former Governor Okowa, was received by senior APC officials in a ceremony that political analysts describe as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This mass defection includes not only the top executive figures but also the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the state PDP chairman, all local government chairmen, and other key party members. Their collective move to the APC signifies a major realignment in Delta State’s political structure.

Governor Oborevwori, who secured his position in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, had previously defeated APC’s Ovie Omo-Agege.
