Medical doctors residing in Abuja have issued a stern threat to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over nonpayment of six months salary arrears.
The doctors threatened to shut down the hospitals in the FCT if the minister does not pay the salary arrears within 21 days.
This was contained in a statement made by the President of the FCTA Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), George Ebong, on Monday, December 23, 2024.
GNtv Reporters learnt Dr George commended Wike for the infrastructural developments he has so far initiated in Abuja, urging him not to abandon the doctors.
As reported by Channels Television on Monday, December 23, 2024, Dr Ebong said:
“We want the minister to solve the problems so doctors can practice to the best of their ability.
“ARD earlier gave a 21-day ultimatum last week during our Annual General Meeting, leaving 14 days.
“We don’t want the deadliest shutdown that may lead to loss of lives; it is important that the minister listen and act on demand without delays.
“The minister should with urgency clear the payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund of 2024.
“Also, we want the minister to review the bonding policy to two years, instead of six years.”
Concluding his speech, the ARD president expressed optimism that the Minister will look into their demands.
